NewsMaritime - YilPort to Open Stockholm Nord and Expand Gavle Container Terminal

Turkish operator Yilport Holdings start construction of Stockholm Nord Combi Terminal (SNCT) in the Swedish city of Rosersberg, converting it into container hub for the region. The terminal capacity will be 150 thousand TEU and among the development is integration with Swedish railway network and direct connection with the container terminal at the port of Gavle, which was acquired on 20-year concession by Turkish operator last year. Yilport ordered two cranes and several RMG reachstackers for operations in the terminal, which will improve the cargo handling operations speed. The new terminal will be integrated in one of the largest cargo hubs in vicinity, which is projected to serve Western Baltic Sea.

Along with construction of Stockholm Nord Combi Terminal, the Turkish port operator plans to expand the capacity of container terminal at port of Gavle from 300 thousand TEU to 500 thousand TEU. The estimated time of completion of the development is 2018. The port is located on 90 nautical miles north from Stockholm and is the third-largest container terminal in the country. The construction of the railway connecting both terminalsis very important for the constantly increasing traffic and insufficient capacity of port of Gavle.

According to the plan Yilport, the project will be able to solve the problem of congestion and related excess costs of cargo. After construction of railway connection the cargoes delivered at port of Gavle will be transshipped to Stockholm Nord Combi Terminal and then to the recipient's door.
