OverviewPaita, the main port of Northern Peru, holds a special geographical position as the natural zone of influence for the regions of Amazonas, Cajamarca, Lambayeque, Piura, Tumbes, and San Martin. The port handles containers, liquid cargo, and general cargo, including a wide range of products from canned and frozen fish, fishmeal, fish oil, fertilizers, fruit, grain, shrimps to vegetable oil.
The terminal is located in the Piura Region, which has a large hinterland and plays a key role in Peru’s agricultural trade activities. The region is also renowned for the land of the best mangoes in South America. It serves as an important export gate for avocados, grapes, and blueberries and an import point for fertilizers and grains (corn, wheat, barley) in breakbulk. Paita handles a high proportion of reefer cargo, with 80% of total export volumes transported in refrigerated containers. The terminal increases its volume year by year, adding new values to the Peruvian economy.

It has upgraded its systems and increased its capacity by investing heavily in various terminal development projects to accommodate larger vessels and break new records on cargo volume handled in the region.
To enhance throughput capacity for containers and general cargo, Paita has completed significant expansion projects, including “Container Berth Extension” to 360 meters and “Reinforcement and Extension of Finger Pier” to 360 meters in length and 54 meters in width. The terminal is now ready to welcome bigger vessels and increase the throughput capacity in containers and general cargo.
